How Udine turned football into a shared energy source

In recent years, we've come to understand that the energy transition isn't just a technological challenge—it’s a cultural and social one, too. It calls for a new mindset built around community, transparency, and sharing. These are the very principles at the heart of Renewable Energy Communities (RECs), a rapidly growing model that’s already reshaping Italian territories—and now, it's entering the world of football.
A new challenge: producing energy together, for everyone
RECs are based on a simple yet powerful idea: citizens, businesses, and institutions joining forces to produce, consume, and exchange energy from renewable sources like solar power. This energy is generated locally and shared, cutting costs, waste, and reliance on fossil fuels. The benefits are environmental, social, and economic: lower CO₂ emissions, greater energy independence, and the creation of real, collaborative networks.

But to turn this vision into a reality, we need bold, scalable examples. One of those comes from Udine.
The stadium that shares its Energy
With the Energia in Campo initiative, Udinese Calcio and Bluenergy Group have launched Italy’s first renewable energy community connected to a football stadium. At the heart of the project is the Bluenergy Stadium, equipped with over 2,400 solar panels and capable of producing 1.1 MWh of energy per year. Of this, 30%—unused by the stadium—is redistributed to local fans and businesses.

The result? Clean energy, lower costs, and accessible incentives for those who join the community. But there's more: the revenue generated is reinvested in a tangible social project, supporting the child neuropsychiatry department of the Friuli Central University Health Authority. A measurable, real-world impact that combines innovation, sport, and collective wellbeing.
Why this model works
Udinese’s case isn’t just a great project—it’s a blueprint for a new kind of strategic positioning. It’s a way for an organization to become an active player in its community, generate shared value, and build a strong, credible reputation. And most importantly, it’s about proving your impact with data.

This is exactly where Regg3 comes in.
